Horowitz Steinway CD 503
The famed Steinway “CD 503" that Vladimir Horowitz performed on exclusively for many years was on display for a couple weeks in August 2013, at Graves Piano & Organ Company in Columbus, Ohio. It is a Steinway D #314503 and was maintained for many years by the renowned Steinway Technician, Franz Mohr. The piano, at the time of these photos, was in very good regulation and had a very nice light, yet firm, touch that was easy to play, and a sweet round tonality at pianissimo that still sounded powerfully deep and rich when played at louder volumes. It wasn't just a museum piece but a fully prepped concert instrument that had been performed on by a few visiting artists in the weeks prior to these photos. Apparently, they all loved the instrument as well. Not just for it's historical importance, but for its tonality and playability as well.
